Two members of the senior leadership team at Seymour Manufacturing International (SMI) have completed advanced mental health training, reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting staff wellbeing.
Chief financial officer Jayne Meakin and operations manager Dave Arthur achieved the FAA Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health following a course delivered through Shropshire Chamber of Commerce.
The training, led by Heather Noble of Salt Solutions, explored how to identify signs of mental ill health, support colleagues experiencing difficulties, and promote healthier working environments.
Jayne said: “SMI recognises the growing importance of mental health awareness in the workplace, and the course was insightful and thought‑provoking.
“I would recommend this training to anyone. It equips you with the understanding and confidence to support mental health not only in professional settings, but in personal situations too.
“Mental ill health is worryingly on the rise, and it is vital that we recognise the signs and understand the needs of people living with these conditions. As an employer, this is something SMI takes very seriously.”
Dave Arthur, who is also an active advocate for men’s mental health through the local support group Primal Instincts, added: “The qualification further strengthens SMI’s commitment to creating an environment where staff feel supported, listened to, and able to talk openly about their wellbeing.”
SMI is recognised as global leader in thermal insulation technology, supplying major supermarkets, distribution centres, hospitals, airports and military organisations.
It has a strong manufacturing team at its Telford headquarters, with the capability to manufacture bespoke products for a wide variety of industries.
Founded more than four decades ago by industry pioneer and company chairman Brian Seymour, the company is now run by his wife Jill Seymour.
The leadership team said the training was part of a wider focus on employee welfare, ensuring the family-run company continues to foster a culture of awareness, support and compassion.
Jill Seymour said: “Our core values are to be able to recognise anyone in the SMI family that needs support, and to be proud of the team in everything they deliver for the success of the company.”
