Craft beer company toasts new SMI thermal installation

A craft beer company in London is saving energy and money after installing new thermal insulation products from Seymour Manufacturing International.

The SMI team was invited in to Caps and Taps – a craft beer shop and tasting room near Camden Town – to advise owners Phill and Steph Palgrave-Elliott on how to maintain stock temperature and reduce energy costs.

The recommendation was a set of SMI’s renowned Cold-Stop curtains, supplemented by a Track-Rack storage system.

“The shop has over 400 different beers in stock and the varieties come from London, across the UK, Europe, USA and further afield, so it was important to install the right system to keep the beverages at a consistent temperature,” said SMI’s southern sales manager Ross Clarke.

“Cold-Stop curtains are made from our lightweight thermal insulation material, Tempro, which has been scientifically proven to cut energy loss by between 25% and 60%, depending on the products and the environment.

“The curtains are also easy to clean, anti-fungicidal, of hard-wearing construction, UV stabilised and flame retardant so they bring many benefits to the retail environment.”

Phill Palgrave-Elliott said the Caps and Taps team were delighted with the installation and were looking forward to reaping the rewards in terms of energy savings.

“We opened our shop in early 2015 when the London craft beer scene started, and in 2021, we moved from our original Kentish Town site to Tufnell Park.

“We asked Seymour Manufacturing International Limited to advise us on the best solution to maintain the temperature of our stock and to reduce our energy costs, and we’re delighted with the system they have installed.

“It’s incredible to feel the difference in temperature now that the curtain system is in place and it’s very reassuring to know our stock will be stored at the optimum temperature to keep it in a consistent and appropriate atmosphere.”

SMI Ltd has been saving energy and money for some of the world’s biggest and best-known businesses since the 1980s.
