SMI appoints a new sales manager for the south

A sales manager with a wealth of experience in the retail industry has joined Seymour Manufacturing International (SMI) to spearhead the company’s sales across the south of England.

Ross Clarke joins the Telford-based company as Southern Sales Manager, having spent the last few years with the UK operation of Wanzl, the world's largest manufacturer of shopping trolleys and luggage trolleys.

His career also includes experience with many other big-name brands, including JJB Sports, Argos, Staples, and IKEA – where he was part of the set-up team which launched the company’s flagship store in Southampton.

London-born Ross, who now lives in Christchurch, Dorset, said: “I’m really excited to get started, as I can see the great potential of the SMI product range.

“The thermal benefits sell themselves, so it’s a case of getting out to meet as many new customers as possible to spread the word. There is a great buzz here, and I’m particularly enjoying being part of a business with such a ‘family’ feel to it.”

During his time at Wanzl, Ross was an account manager, and head of passenger handling services, which involved working closely with airports, ports and train networks across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Ross is the latest in a series of new recruits to join SMI in recent weeks, following the appointment of John Craig as warehouse supervisor, and sales and project co-ordinator Kirsty Murrell.

Jill Seymour, SMI director, said: “We’re delighted to have Ross on board with us. We had somewhere in the region of 300 applications for this post, but he was the candidate who really stood out.

“Not just because of his experience, but also because of his personality, and enthusiasm. We’re confident he will help us to build many new and long-term relationships.

“There are so many businesses out there who do not realise the financial benefits they could be enjoying by using SMI products – Ross will be out and about, helping us to spread the word.”

SMI is based on the Stafford Park industrial estate in Telford, Shropshire, and has been saving energy and money for some of the world’s biggest and best-known businesses since the 1980s.

The company’s client list is a who’s who of blue-chip brands both in the UK and abroad, including retailers such as Waitrose, Morrisons, ASDA, Sainsbury’s, Marks & Spencer, The Co-operative, and Lidl.

It also works with the NHS, the Ministry of Defence, and has become a leading thermal insulation supplier for the protection of food, chemicals, agricultural and home delivery products.
