Supporting 'the circus with a purpose' again this year

Youngsters in Telford will get the chance to enjoy a spectacular circus performance thanks to another donation from SMI.

Circus Starr is visiting the town as part of its nationwide winter tour where they bring together the very best in circus talent from around the world and stage 148 animal-free shows every year.

The events have been running for over 35 years and they are designed to be inclusive performances with tickets free to children who are disabled, vulnerable, under-privileged or who have additional learning needs.

SMI has pledged its support to the Telford shows by donating funds to cover the cost of six tickets for local children.

The circus will appear at Oakengates Theatre, in Limes Walk, on Tuesday January 24, 2023, with two performances at 4.45pm and 7pm.

SMI director Jill Seymour said they were delighted to be supporting the shows which provided a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy themselves in an environment that was safe and understanding.

“We were very impressed with Circus Starr’s approach and ethos, and their commitment to performing shows that were accessible and comfortable for everyone.

“As a local company, we are always keen to support activities and organisations that make a real difference in the local area, and we believe Circus Starr does just that.”

Fund raising director for Circus Starr, Michelle Crossley, said: “We understand that attending mainstream events can be difficult for children with additional needs or families in difficult circumstances.

“We’ve created a show where shouting out, dancing, and jumping up and down are expected – at our circus, everyone is absolutely encouraged to let go of their worries, get involved and be themselves.

“We bring all of the fun of the circus to children and families that may have found this difficult in the past, and it’s thanks to the generosity of local companies and organisations that we have been able to create happy memories in communities across the UK.
