More than £150,000 is invested to 'future-proof' the business

Thermal insulation specialist Seymour Manufacturing International (SMI) has invested more than £150,000 in expanding its Telford headquarters after one of the busiest trading periods in its history.

The investment includes a new mezzanine at the Stafford Park building to create space for a larger product showroom, and provide extra stock storage capacity.

The goods loading process has also been streamlined, and a new thermally insulated roof – in keeping with the company’s energy-saving ethos – has been fitted across the whole building.

Managing director Jill Seymour said the expansion was essential to keep pace with orders coming in from a broad range of sectors including food retail, logistics, pharmaceuticals, defence and hospitality – plus a sharp rise in interest from the farming community.

Sales have been particularly busy for the company’s trademark Cold-Stop thermal curtains, using SMI’s award-winning Tempro® insulation, as well as its range of thermal roll cage covers.

Independent tests show that SMI’s Tempro® products can save up to 33% on energy bills and significantly reduce a company’s carbon footprint.

“We have had the busiest start to a year in our recent history,” Jill said.

“Customers are currently under huge pressure to reduce energy consumption, cut waste and strengthen their temperature‑control processes. Our products are designed precisely for those challenges.

“This is why we’ve entered into a strategic partnership with True Group, the energy management specialists who are on a mission to save two million tonnes of carbon and £2 billion of energy costs for businesses by 2030.

“There is real synergy between us – working hand-in hand to create the correct temperature environment, and bring energy costs down.”

Jill added: “The investment in our Telford headquarters isn’t simply about coping with demand. It’s about future‑proofing the business.

“Temperature control is now paramount for companies across the UK and beyond. Heatwaves, unpredictable weather patterns and rising energy costs mean businesses can’t afford inefficiency. They need reliable, proven solutions, and that’s exactly what we provide.”

She added: “We’re a family-run business with a fantastic team, and this expansion is as much an investment in them as it is in the business. We’re building capacity, capability and resilience – and we’re doing it right here in Telford.”

Founded more than four decades ago by industry pioneer and company chairman Brian Seymour, SMI has become a global leader in thermal‑insulation technology, tried-and-tested by supplying major supermarkets, distribution centres, hospitals, airports and military organisations.

“Temperature control is becoming one of the defining operational challenges of the next decade,” Jill said. “Our products help businesses stay compliant, reduce costs and protect their assets. This expansion ensures we can continue delivering the quality, speed and innovation our customers expect.”

SMI will be holding a ‘Meet The Neighbours’ event, in partnership with Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, on the afternoon of October 22 - a friendly and informal session for businesses to tour the new facility, see the full product range, and share best practice.
